Wasaga Under Siege - July 21st & 23rd, 2006

Nancy Island, Wasaga, Ontario

The Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada were part of the Grand Encampment at Nancy Island Historic Site. It featured well over 400 re-enactors portraying their living history encampments, 19th century merchants, artisans, period cooking, musket and cannon demonstrations, surgeons tent, and period musical entertainment and much more.

American scouting and foraging parties had been sent ashore for firewood and reconnaissance in search of any signs of British forces. British pickets alerted Lt. Worsley of the American presence and re-enforcements were sent out to stop the American advance. Hopefully, HMS Nancy's hiding place up the Nottawasaga River would not be discovered by the American forces. Unfortunately it was! The rest is history!!

The Incorporated Militia would like to thank Dave Brunelle, the event organizer, The Royal Newfoundland Regiment and the staff and volunteers of Nancy Island for another very well run War of 1812 event! We’ll definitely be back in 2007.
