May 28th & 29th, 2005 - Talbot Settlement

Below is a communication about the above event...

From: Capt Dickerson, 1st Reg't, Royal Scots, Light Coy.
To: Mr. Pickles, Commander,Crown Forces North America

Sir,
It is my honour to report of the events which occurred the 28th and 29th of this month at the Talbot settlement of Tyconnel, Upper Canada, on the shores of Lake Erie. Information collected by Pt Jeff Brown of the 10th Royal Veterans and presented to me, indicated that a sizable force of American infantry and marines had landed at the Talbot settlement. Upon arrival at the settlement, I found that a barn had been destroyed by Brother Johnathon, and Col Talbot had escaped capture by the narrowest of margins. Capt Hannah of the Norfolk Militia had arrived with valuable re-enforcements as well as Capt Tordiff of the Leeds Militia. Col Talbot appointed me, as senior regular officer, to the position of field commander, brevet Major. By this time I had accumulated a force consisting of the 1st Reg't (Royal Scots) Light Coy, the 10th Royal Veterans, the Glengarry Light Infantry, Royal Newfoundland Reg't, the Norfolk Militia, some Native allies and a battery of provincial marine artillery..." c/o Capt Mark Dickerson

On Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29, the Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada handed in their redcoats and portrayed the US Forces so that the Norfolk Militia could portray the loyal Canadians that defended Canada at this important event during the War of 1812. Helping to keep both sides even in numbers, gave those that came out to witness the re-enactment a better idea of what happened almost 200 years ago.

Our compliments and thanks to the Norfolk Militia and the organizers for a very well run event, on a beautiful site with great weather!
