May 2008

May 3rd & 4th 2008, Battle of Longwoods in Delaware, Ontario

During May of this year the Incorporated Militia was involved in three very different events. The first one was the Battle of Longwoods near Delaware Ontario. The Royal Scots Lights always do a great job in organizing this re-enacting season opener. Additional information can be found on the Upper Thames Military Re-Enactment Society's website at http://www.royal-scots.com/id5.html

May 10th & 11th, 2008, Rise To Rebellion in Keswick, Ontario

On the weekend of May 10 and 11, the Incorporated Militia assisted the Georgina Pioneer Village host an "1937 - Rise to Rebellion" pitting the Rebels of Upper Canada against the agents of The Crown. For the Incorporated Militia this was a good fit as the original IMUC was disbanded in 1815 and recalled in 1837 although they did not serve. The weekend activities included speeches by rivals William Lyon MacKenzie and Sir Francis Bond Head. The visitors to the village aided both sides as they learned a little more about this time in our country's history.

Additional pictures can be found at the York Regional Era Banner's site at http://www.yrmg.com/photogalleries/events/0805rebellion/

This same weekend we attended the wedding of our very own "Earl of Keswick and his lovely bride" . Bill and Suzanne "tied the knot" in the village church with the regiment in attendance.

May 27, 2008, Summer of Sorrow film shoot - Toronto

The film industry in Canada will never be the same! On May 27, 15 of our members participated in part of the filming of "Summer of Sorrow", a film that tells the story of the Irish Immigrants and the tragedy they met when they arrived in York in 1847.

Our members were part of the crowd when Bishop Michael Power pleaded with the citizens of York to help the dying. Our big "break" came when we were asked to play the roles of the disinterested city councillors as they tried to pass the blame. We anxiously away the release of this Canada/Ireland co-production this fall.
