July 2008

This month has been a very busy month for the Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada and the Campfollowers. We were involved in 5 different day and weekend events.

  • Canada Day - Downsview Park - July 1
  • Naval Establishment Re-opening - Penetanguishene - July 5
  • Battle of Crylser's Farm - Upper Canada Village - July 11 - 13
  • Old Fort Niagara - Youngstown NY - July 18 - 20
  • Wasaga Under Siege - Nancy Island - July 25 - 27

Canada Day - June 7th, 2008

Our F\first event was Canada Day at Downsview Park in Toronto. 50,000 people came to this free event and along with rides, free food and fireworks learned a little about Canada's early history. After seeing a demonstration of tactics and drill, many of the visitors stayed for pictures, questions and our artifacts display. Further information can be found at:

Naval Establishment

The refurbished Officers Quarters at the Naval Establishment in Penetanguishene was opened by The Lt Governor, David Ontley, on Saturday July 5. Several of our officers were on hand to help the site with this celebration.

Crylser's Farm

Again this year, we supported the Battle of Crysler's Farm in Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg Ontario. We would like to acknowledge and thank Robin Morris and his crew of volunteers for taking such good care of us all!

Old Fort Niagara

On the weekend of July 19 and 20, several of our members were able to participate in the War of 1812 event hosted by Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown, NY. Those attending reported that all went well despite the "damp" weather on Sunday. Doug DeCroix and his fort staff did a great job with the battle scenarios and camp set up.

Wasaga Under Siege - Nancy Island

Wasaga Under Siege again this year was one of our best attended events. This tight packed encampment on historic Nancy Island continues to be a growing, well attended "could have happened" event. Dave Brunelle, the Friends of Nancy Island and their many volunteers went out of their way to make sure everyone had another enjoyable and safe event.
