Fort George Grand Tactical - July 16th & 17th
Niagara-on-the-Lake
This year's Crown Forces North America Grand Tactical was held in Fort George in Niagara-on-the-lake Ontario. Dave Webb and his crew of staff and volunteers coordinated a very successful War of 1812 event. The Volunteer Battalion of the Incorporated Militia Of Upper Canada provided members for the Line, the Corps of Drums, The Crown Forces Staff and the Colour Party.
The weekend's events consisted of four distinct parts;
- A march of the British/ Canadian and US forces through the town of Niagara-on-the-lake.
- A Saturday evening battle on the Niagara River's edge against the US forces in three tall ships and many longboats.
- A Saturday evening battle on the slope in front of the fort.
- A Sunday afternoon capturing of the fort!
We were all kept VERY busy fitting a full schedule into regular camp duties and activities.
Record temperatures and humidity levels didn't dampen the dedication of the many members of the War of 1812 re-enacting community. Next year's Grand Tactical hasn't yet been officially announced. They will have to work hard to top the "Grand Tactical 2005"!
Again we would like to thank Debbie and Sarah Brown for the Campfollower-cam pictures and additional shots from Bill Longo of the Glengarry Light Infantry
