Fort York
March Drill, School of the Soldier, Historical Cooking School, Battle of York
March/April 2007

Toronto, Ontario

During the last few weeks members of the Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada and The Campfollowers have been involved with four different events at Old Fort York in Toronto.

March 13 saw us at the fort for a day of drill with the Glengarry Light Infantry. Because of a late season snow fall, winter gear and greatcoats were required.

On April 28 the officers and NCOs participated in the Crown Forces North America's School of the Soldier. This annual event brings together the officers and NCOs of the many different 1812 re-enactment groups. We all fine tune our interpretations for the upcoming season with emphasis on safety and authenticity.

Also on April 28th, members of The Campfollowers participated in the Historical Cooking School in the Officers Mess kitchen. Fort York cooks and volunteers were very eager to share their expertise, training and research with the participants. It smelled pretty good in there too!

April 29 saw us return to Fort York for the Battle of York program run by the fort. It was a day to get some more much needed drill and a chance to interact with the tourists and guests.

All four of these early season activities were appreciated by our members.
