On Saturday April 17, the Officers and NCOs of the Crown Forces, North
America met for a day of training at Fort York in Toronto. Members of all
the other War of 1812 re-enactment groups along with the Corps of Drums were
on hand to go over drill as well as equipment and safety issues. The
Officers and NCOs have been meeting each spring for the last several years
to make sure that all groups participating in battalion events, work
together.
The day consisted of discussions and training sessions lead by Peter Twist,
Battalion Commander and Ken Purvis of the Fort York Staff. Despite the
damp, Peter and Ken worked very hard with everyone in the hopes of improving
battalion drill and manoeuvres on the field. The Incorporated Militia was
well represented by 5 officers and NCOs, one Drum Major and 6 musicians.
Work done today should help make this summer more historically accurate and
safer for us and the visiting public.
