FORT YORK FIELD DAY - 2000

April 29th saw the Incorporated Militia Of Upper Canada participate in its annual pre-season field day. Once again we were invited to Fort York during their Battle of Fort York festivities to lend support and numbers to the Kingšs 8th Regiment.

Ninety per cent of our members were able to attend this first official event of the season. Kit was polished and checked out.

Drill was reviewed and muskets were tested and fired. Recruits were put through their paces. The following week saw the first camping event of the season - The Battle Of Longwoods.

This winter has seen our drums grow and develop. Our Drum Major has returned and has worked long and hard with our drummers.

On the 29th of April, the Incorporated Militia was involved in the plaque dedication at the 1812 cemetery just north of the fort on Adelaide Street. Two plaques were unveiled that afternoon, one for the 500 souls still buried there and one to honour the Church of England church that stood next to the site. This was the church used by the garrison and residents of the fort during and after the War of 1812.

"At The Ordinary, March!"
