Old Fort Niagara - September 2001

This year, at the end of November The Incorporated Militia Of Upper Canada participated in the British Garrison weekend hosted by Old Fort Niagara in Lewiston New York. Coming just a few weeks after the terrorist attack in New York City, the members of IMUC felt it was very important to show our solidarity with the fort staff and people of the US. With a little trepidation we headed to the border with our kit, our muskets and our solidarity. We werenÕt sure as to how we would be received by the border staff on the Canadian side and on the US side.Doug LeCroix did a great job letting the customs and immigration people know who we and what we were. The crossing was uneventful. As usual we were welcomed and appreciated. We look forward to supporting Old Fort Niagara and their friends for years to come. This yearÕs garrison weekend saw a change of command for the battalion. IMUC would like to again thank Steve Hartwick for his many years of hard work, dedication and sense of humour and welcome Peter Twist as the new commander of the British forces in North America. We look forward to many years of re-enacting with both these learned historians. We would also like to acknowledge and thank Gene Witowski for providing us with several of the pictures from that weekend.
