Our Unit History

djEarly in the War of 1812, it became apparent that the existing militia system was woefully inadequate for the defense of Upper Canada. To rectify this situation, the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada passed an Act creating the Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada. Illuminate Barrie 2017 Sept 2 & 3, 2017

Barrie 2017

IMUC was asked to be part of the “Heritage Village” at the City of Barrie’s Canada 150 Celebration – Illuminate Barrie. Two full days of demonstrations, displays and continual interaction with the public culminated in city sponsored fireworks over Kampenfelt Bay. We were glad to come and tell our stories and share our knowledge. We even got along with the Medieval Knights also in attendance! Pictures from the event can be found at;

 Old Fort Niagara Sept 2&3, 2017

Fort Niagara 2017

We are a little late getting pictures from Old Fort Niagara last week. One of our regular IMUC-cams was there and the pictures have just come available!   Several members of the IMUC Expeditionary Force were able to join the British forces at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown New York. The photos courtesy of Dawn Lindsay and Rolf Grollin have become available and can be found at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/10209916@N05/sets/72157686437291823

Battle of Backus Mill, Oct 9 & 10, 2017

Backus Mill 2017

Backus Mill is a perennial favourite of the Incorporated Militia. Once again we were treated royally by our good friends, the Norfolk Militia and the Backus Mill Conservation Authority site and staff. Perfect “wool weather” had been ordered and supplied! The battle scenarios worked very well with the village terrain. Several running skirmishes helped to animate the American and British camps. Some pictures from Backus Mill, 2017 can be found at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/10209916@N05/sets/72157688876902895
